Is Anton chekhov's "The seagull" quite popular? when and where the most popular play happened?

On it's opening night, The Seagull was nearly a flop, but eventually it was a success. It is still performed quite regularly by both amateur and professional companies and is to be made into a film with Kristen Scott Thomas and Mackenzie Crook next year. There's some info attached.
